China restricts export of COVID-19 supplies to approved products only

Restriction
Author: Arthur Brandwood

In response to alarming reports of defective COVID-19 test kits, face masks and other emergency supplies, China has taken swift action to restrict the export of medical products which are not up to acceptable standards. The restriction requires that such products must be already approved by NMPA for supply within China and must also meet the quality requirements of the destination market.

The order applies to all exports of new coronavirus detection reagents, medical masks, medical protective clothing, ventilators and infrared thermometers.

Exporters must complete a declaration providing details of current NMPA registration number and declaring that destination market quality requirements are met.

This new process is catching out existing suppliers, as well as newer exporters responding to the pandemic.
